1. About Department :
The Department of DVL was established in 2005. The department has all the required infra-structure, equipment, staff and space as laid down by NMC. It has an excellent OPD and IPD facility equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, high end Skin Lasers, a Skin Operation Theatre, Departmental library and a Seminar Room with necessary space for the office and the staff.
The DVL OPD has adequate Consulting rooms, Procedure Room, Side Laboratory and UV LIGHT Room. A Laser Theatre and a Skin Operation Theatre are available. The diagnostic procedures include Skin scraping, Slit-skin smear, Tzanck smear, Wood’s lamp examination, Skin Biopsy and other investigations. The therapeutic procedures include Vitiligo Surgeries, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for Hair loss, Facial rejuvenation, Intralesional injection, Radiocautery, Cryosurgery, Chemical peels, Microdermabrasion, Autoinoculation of warts & Nail surgeries. In addition to all this Department of DVL is upgraded with High End Laser Machines such as Diode Laser, Q Switched Nd-Yag Laser ( Triobeam) & Fractional Co2 Laser with Surgical Mode ( Fraxis). Laser surgeries like Permanent hair reduction, Tattoo removal, Pigment reduction, Scar correction, Laser toning, Carbon peel for glowing of skin & Laser for skin rejuvenation are done. Day to day procedures like removal of various skin lesions moles, cyst, warts, skin tags, etc. are performed in the department on OPD basis. The department maintains separate registers for the procedures. Adequate number of procedures are carried out in the OPD.
Various Specialty Clinics such as - Hansen’s, STD, Autoimmune, Vesiculo-bullous disorders, Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Acne & Pigmentary Clinic are regularly conducted, with good attendance. Every Specialty Clinic has a well formed Protocol & data of each patient is maintained.
There is adequate indoor admission facility with total 30 beds in the ward. Various skin disorders like Erythroderma ( Due to drugs & skin disorders), Stevens Johnson Syndrome, Autoimmune disorders ( SLE, Dermatomyositis, Progresssive Systemic Sclerosis), Vesiculobullous disorders( Pemphigus Vulgaris, Pemphigus foliaceous & Bullous pemphigoid), Leprosy (with deformities, Lepra reactions, Trophic ulcer), Eczemas, Psoriasis etc are admitted & treated. As per recent advances in field of dermatology recent treatment options like Biologicals (Inj. Rituximab), Apremilast, Tofacitinib are given for various skin disorders.
The department also has Undergraduate & Postgraduate teaching programme to develop psychomotor, affective and cognitive domains. In undergraduate course students undergo theory classes & clinical posting of total six weeks in which they are trained to identify the common skin disorders. For the post graduate students, activities like, Journal club, seminars, case presentations, Dermatopathology, Spot case discussions are done on a weekly basis.
Faculty members upgrade their knowledge & skill by conducting Case presentations, Seminars and journal reviews. The faculty also regularly attend CMEs, Conferences and Workshops related to clinical dermatology, dermatosurgery and laser surgeries, conducted by reputed national & international organizations. They have presented papers and posters at national conferences and published original research articles in various national and international journals. Considering the facilities available, Postgraduate M.D. degree course in DVL – 3 seats/ year, is sanctioned by NMC.
